Read The Battle with the Dragon, pages 64-77 of your literature book. Answer the following questions:
1. Describe Beowulf as he sets out for his encounter with the dragon.
2. Why do you think part of Beowulf's plan in defeating the dragon was to also go after his treasure?
3. Why do you think that Beowulf's men desert him now when earlier in the battle with Grendel they came to his aid?
4. Why do you think Beowulf named his sword? What does the naming of the sword indicate about the value that the warriors place on their armaments?
5. Compare and contrast Beowulf to Wiglaf.
